An exhibition by three photographic artists who love the challenges of chasing ideas and resolving new processes.
An exhibition featuring three photographic artists from different regions of Aotearoa, united by their shared passion for chasing ideas and navigating the complexities of new creative processes.
Sandy Connon employs a diverse array of techniques, including collage, photographic chine collé, dry point, photo transfers, and repurposed fabric scraps, to delve into themes of memory, slippage, and obsolescence.
Guided by her concern for our declining insect populations, Ellen (Ellie) Smith collects and photographs dead insects. She has been experimenting with chlorophyll printing, darkroom photograms and repurposed jewellery to make images of these insects, which, she hopes, will remind us of them and their importance to our world.
Diane Stoppard uses pinhole photography, encaustic wax, and embossed screen printing to evoke the layered memories and the evolving nature of our shared history, symbolised by the enduring presence of colonial trees in the landscape.
