A selection of Photographic Works by Tim Morgan Curated by Jade Morgan.

Tim Morgan- The Photographer

Tim Morgan had a unique view of the world, a perspective that was beautifully captured through his lens. His journey as a photographer began with a gift from his father—a Pentax film camera—that ignited his passion for photography and quickly became his medium for seeing the world, his world.

Tim's work is deeply rooted in a photojournalistic approach, focusing on candid and authentic depictions of people and events. His career in the automotive industry gave him a unique perspective on photographing motor vehicles and machinery, viewing them not just as objects but as dynamic subjects full of character. His love for the outdoors inspired him to capture the beauty of wildlife, nature, and rural life, always grounded in his own experiences and curiousity.

This exhibition, curated and installed by his wife Jade Morgan, is a testament to Tim's unique view through the lens and his love for the art of photography. Jade, an educator, digital media artist, and horticulturist, brings her own creative vision to the curation of this exhibition. Her interest in the relationships between the natural world and beyond complements Tim's work and invites us into their shared experience as working in the language of light and images.

Through this exhibition, Jade invites us to see the world as Tim did—to feel the emotions, connect with the stories, and appreciate the beauty he found in every moment. This is a rare opportunity to view and be able to purchase one of Tim’s photos by way of silent auction.

All profits made from this show will be donated to charity that aligns with Tim’s kaupapa. (Hospice and local wildlife group.)

Tim Morgan: The Photographer

Timothy John Harriman Morgan, affectionately known as Tim, was born on August 1st, 1967, in Whangārei Base Hospital to Robyn and Roger Morgan. As the eldest of two sons, Tim spent his early childhood in Whangārei before moving with his family to Kaikohe. He returned to Whangārei for his high school years, residing at Carruth House as a hostel student at Whangārei Boys' High School, where he formed lasting memories and friendships.

After high school, Tim lived on his grandparents' farm in Marua and pursued an apprenticeship in automotive engineering, a field in which he worked until an injury prevented him from continuing full-time. Tim's passion for photography was inspired by his father, Roger, a keen photographer who introduced him to the art of developing photos in a home darkroom. Inheriting his father's Pentax film camera in his late teens, Tim's journey into photography began in earnest, later transitioning to digital photography with a Canon 50D, encouraged by his wife, Jade.

Tim's photographic style was characterised by a photojournalistic approach, capturing candid moments and events with an authentic and heartfelt perspective. His passion and connection to the automotive industry gave him a unique eye for photographing motor vehicles, machinery, and motorsport. Additionally, his love for the outdoors and wildlife led him to capture stunning images of nature, rural life, and old relics. Tim's travel adventures across New Zealand and trips to Australia, Canada, and the US opened up new landscapes and cityscapes, as seen in his travel photography.

A dedicated member of The Shutter Room, Tim contributed significantly to the local photography community by helping install exhibitions and hosting events. He participated in numerous exhibitions and workshops, often accompanied by his wife, Jade. In 2009, Tim earned a Diploma in Photography from The Photography Institute, cementing his commitment to his craft.

Tim's life was tragically cut short when he passed away on July 29th, 2019, just days before his 52nd birthday. His legacy lives on through his captivating photographs and the impact he had on those who knew him.
