Photo Studio
The Shutter Room has a lighting studio situated behind the gallery. This not-for-profit space can be hired by members of the Shutter Room or used at no charge by members who volunteer their time to help run the gallery and collective.
Lighting Studio
To use these lights you must complete a short 15 minute induction process and meet a standard of skill as assessed by our studio manager. To book an induction session just email the studio manager.
Studio lighting equipment available:
paper backdrop system (white/black/grey)
studio tripod
poly reflector boards
professional 4 head Elinchrom strobe light kit (includes 2x ELC125 heads & 2x D-Lite heads)
2 head Aputure constant light kit (includes Aputure Amaran 200ds & Aputure LSC120dII)
light meter & colour calibration cards
extension cords & safety circuit breakers
We do not have cameras for hire.
Light Catchers
Light Catchers is an informal group of Shutter Room members who meet up with Ellie Smith once or twice a month to play around with the studio lights, develop new skills and have some fun. Thanks to support from Creative Practice, with funding from Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage Regeneration Fund, it only costs a gold coin donation each session.
